Four people have been arrested in connection with the violent clashes that erupted during the burial and funeral rites of six royals at Asamankese, the Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed.
The arrests follow a confrontation on Sunday, October 26, 2025, between police and supporters of embattled Chief Osabarima Adu Darko II, which left at least six people injured, including three police officers. Several police vehicles were also vandalized during the chaos.
The clashes occurred as the Akua Korang Akwamu Royal Family attempted to bury six deceased royals at the royal cemetery, an act contested by Osabarima Adu Darko II, who had reportedly obtained a court injunction to stop the interment.
According to the police in a statement on Monday, October 27, intelligence indicated that some individuals were transporting firearms and ammunition near the Asamankese Palace, prompting officers to intervene.
During the operation, authorities recovered one single-barrel gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.
Police say that after the arrest of suspects Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam, and Buaben Richard, a group of agitated youth attacked officers with stones and other objects, injuring three and causing damage to the windscreen and side glass of two police vehicles.
The youth also blocked roads around the palace and fired shots in protest of the burial. Six civilians—David Odame, Musah Gyakweli, Patrick Ofosu, Obeng Emmanuel, Asamoah Sey, and an unidentified individual—sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at the Asamankese Government Hospital.
The police confirmed that all suspects are assisting with investigations, and the situation in Asamankese has since been normalized. Patrols and surveillance have been intensified to maintain security and ensure residents can resume their normal activities.
