Asante Kotoko claimed their 10th MTN FA Cup title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in a thrilling final at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Porcupine Warriors took an early lead in the 17th minute through striker Kwame Opoku, who converted a well-worked set-piece move initiated by Lord Amoah’s incisive run and precise delivery.
However, Golden Kick, the surprise package of the competition, responded with determination and drew level in the 32nd minute. Bless Ege curled in a superb free-kick that left the Kotoko goalkeeper rooted to the spot, sending the crowd into raptures.
The second half saw both sides pressing for a winner in an end-to-end encounter. Kotoko endured a few nervy moments at the back, with substitute Emmanuel Antwi helping to stabilise the midfield and initiate several attacking forays.
Amidu Acquah missed a golden chance in the 84th minute to restore Kotoko’s lead, blazing over from close range.
But the decisive moment arrived in the 90th minute when Kwame Opoku collided with Golden Kick goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba in the box, prompting the referee to point to the spot—a decision that sparked heated protests from the Golden Kick bench.
Opoku, unfazed by the pressure, stepped up and calmly slotted home the penalty to complete his brace and seal Kotoko’s triumph.
The victory not only adds a 10th FA Cup trophy to Kotoko’s illustrious cabinet but also confirms their qualification for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, marking their return to continental football.
