The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North Constituency, Haruna Mohammed (BA), has outlined an extensive list of achievements in his first year in office, highlighting significant developments across education, infrastructure, health, employment, and sports.
In a statement titled, “See What We’ve Achieved Together!”, Haruna Mohammed detailed initiatives aimed at improving the lives of constituents and supporting community growth.
Education and Youth Development
The MP’s office reported that school fees were paid for 93 tertiary students in the constituency, while 25 students, including three medical students, received GETFund scholarships. Over 500 graduated artisans benefited from almost GHC 200,000 in seed capital to support their ventures.
The MP also contributed educational materials, including 3,500 mathematical sets for 2025 BECE candidates and equipment for Mim Senior High School, including a distillation plant. In addition, classroom infrastructure was expanded with the construction of a six-unit block at Mpomadze, three-unit blocks at Abeberebese and Bonkwene, and completion of the Asukese JHS block. A KG block was also built at Bonkwene, while the ICT centre at Mim King Faisal Basic School was completed.
To support access to education, eight tricycles were donated in partnership with the Asunafo Farmers Cooperative Association to transport children from scattered villages to school.
Infrastructure and Utilities
Significant progress was made in infrastructure and utility services. Rural electrification was extended to 50 communities, with upgrades from single-phase to three-phase electricity in parts of Goaso and meter installations in Gyesewobre, Adiepena, Baakodue, Dotom, and Asuboi. Water infrastructure projects included the rehabilitation of the Mim Pipe 20 system for free water supply and a pipe-borne water system for Asumura Fante.
Road development was also a priority. The Bediako – Kasapin – Camp 15 road was constructed, and roads such as Kwartengkrom, Bitire, Akrodie – Mensakrom – Brodedwo were reshaped and maintained. The Tepa – Goaso road was asphalted under the Big Push initiative to improve transport and trade. Additionally, an abandoned bridge in Kwartengkrom was filled, and refuse dumps were cleared in Fawoyeden, Mim Abromam, and Akrodie Junction to enhance sanitation.
Health and Community Services
Health facilities benefited from donations including TVs for Mim Poly Clinic and Kwaku Dua CHPs compound, medical equipment for Mensah Krom CHPs, and support for Gyasikrom Clinic’s re-roofing. CHPS compounds were constructed at Dechem and Fiankor, while the Goaso Fire Station received support to complete its washroom facilities.
About 5,000 residents received free NHIS registration and renewal, and a Passport Application Centre was established in Goaso.
Employment and Economic Empowerment
BA facilitated employment for over 100 young people in the police, fire service, prisons, ambulance services, and other sectors through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA). An investor was also secured to kickstart operations at the Mim Quarry, creating jobs for hundreds of young people.
Sports and Culture
Sports development was heavily supported with donations of jerseys, footballs, trophies, and cash to nurture local talent. The GES inter-schools gala tournament received GH¢ 50,000, and modern sports facilities were supported at Ahafoman SHS and Mim Senior High School. Additionally, GHC 10,000 and 200 bags of cement were donated to support the Mpuntuo festival in Mim.
Community and Traditional Infrastructure
Roofing sheets, sand, gravel, and cement were donated for the completion of JHS blocks in Asukese and teachers’ bungalows in Gyaekontabuo. Re-roofing works were done for schools and traditional council buildings affected by storms in Mim.
BA concluded by emphasising that these are only the documented achievements from his first year in office, promising that more results will follow. “There’s so much more to come. No excuses, only results. This is just the beginning. Happy New Year, Asunafo North! This is THE BA EFFECT,” he said.
