A 17-year-old final-year student of Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast, identified as Emmanuel Arthur, has allegedly died by suicide in an uncompleted building shortly after writing his Geography examination.
According to a police report, the incident came to light when a carpenter working at an uncompleted building at OLA North discovered the decomposed body of a young male hanging inside the structure at about 4:45 p.m. and immediately alerted the police.
Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the discovery of the body, believed to be about 17 years old, hanging with a piece of cloth tied around his neck.
A search of the scene led to the retrieval of a backpack containing a mock examination paper, a 2026 Geography Paper One examination sheet from Mfantsipim SHS bearing the name Emmanuel Arthur, as well as mobile phones and other personal belongings.
Authorities of Mfantsipim SHS later confirmed the identity of the deceased, while his family was duly informed of the incident.
Medical personnel at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital indicated that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. The Environmental Health Directorate of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) was subsequently called in to fumigate the scene before the body was removed and buried the same day under health protocols.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death, which has left the school community and residents of Cape Coast in shock.
The Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Evans Enttie, also confirmed the incident in an interview with Starr News.
