Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has officially requested the extradition of former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from the United States to face corruption charges in Ghana.
The announcement was made during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
He said, “I wish to take a moment to announce that I have formally transmitted the request for the extradition of former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and his chef de cabinet, Mr. Ernest Darko Akore”.
Ofori-Atta, along with seven others, is accused in a 78-count case related to controversial revenue assurance contracts awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
The eight accused, listed under charge sheet CR/0106/2026, include Ernest Darko Akore, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Isaac Crentsil, Col. (Rtd.) Kwadwo Damoah, Evans Adusei, and SML as a corporate entity.
The charges, filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), allege that the accused conspired to manipulate the procurement process to secure unfair advantages, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 92(2)(b) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663).
Particulars indicate Ofori-Atta acted in his capacity as Finance Minister, Emmanuel Kofi Nti as Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, and Evans Adusei as CEO and beneficial owner of SML.
