The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced the vetting of five aspirants vying for its parliamentary nomination in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The exercise is taking place today at the party’s regional office in La, within the La Dadekotopon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Three of the five contenders were already seated at the start of proceedings, awaiting the formal commencement of vetting.

Among the aspirants are Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, both of whom filed their nominations on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The vetting comes ahead of a by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following the death of the sitting NDC MP, Mahama Naser Toure.
The party has announced that its primaries to select a candidate will be held on February 7, 2026.
Toure passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a period of illness.
He was serving his fourth term in Parliament and held key leadership roles, including Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee and membership of the Roads and Transport, House, and Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committees.
The NDC’s vetting process will determine the candidate who will contest the by-election on the party’s ticket.
