Bank of Africa supports COVID-19 fight with 700 bags of rice and other items

Bank of Africa (BoA) has supported the fight against COVID-19 by donating towards the poor in society as part of the country experience lockdowns.

BoA has donated 700 bags of rice, 200 gallons of oil, 200 cartons of tin fish and 200 cartons of tin tomatoes to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to support efforts to provide food to the 400,000 vulnerable Ghanaians during the partial lockdown of Greater Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi.

The donation was received by the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison at a short ceremony at the Ministry. Also present at the ceremony was the Chief Director of the ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah.

The Minister was delighted with the donation and said it will go a long way to help the nation’s efforts to feed the vulnerable in society.

“This is very encouraging and a great support; we are overwhelmed with this kind gesture from BANK OF AFRICA and all that we can say is thank you. We would want other corporate entities to continue to support this national fight. Government cannot do this alone and with gestures like this, the fight would be won early” Mrs. Morrison said.

Executive Head, Operations and Support at BANK OF AFRICA, George Otchere who presented the items on behalf of the Bank said the donation forms part of the bank’s COVID-19 Corporate Social Responsibilities and it is their hope that the donation would help to provide some level of relief to the vulnerable in society who have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 partial lockdown.

As part of their CSR activities during this period, the Bank in the coming weeks, has also arranged to do a similar donation to the Greater Kumasi community to support them in supplying food to the vulnerable and needy.

Mr. Otchere reiterated “the bank’s commitment and support towards Women & Children, Health, Education and the Environment and explained that these areas represent the Bank’s CSR Pillars”.

He said that no one was expecting this COVID-19 pandemic, however at this moment, we all need to come together and support government. “We will continue to monitor developments and play our role as a responsible corporate institution to support government,” Mr. Otchere said.

The Bank earlier in March, 2020 contributed GHȼ416,000.00 through the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) to the COVID-19 Trust Fund.

Also present at the event were the Head Banking Operations, Kwame Darfoor, Eric Kojo Van-Ess Kuranchie, Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications and Bright Ampadu Okyere, Marketing and Corporate Communications officer.
