A political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asa Asante has faulted the handlers of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after he was hooted at, when he graced the Hogbetsotso Festival in Anlo in the Volta Region.
The Veep after receiving a rousing welcome was booed in the middle of his speech when he started outlining the achievements of the Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking on the Morning Starr on Starr FM Monday, Dr. Asa Asante argued that the Veep could have avoided the part of his speech that incited the people.
“If you look at what happened it gives you an idea that from a political communication perspective, managers of the Vice President did not do him good at all. The channel that he used that is the durbar was simply wrong. It is true that the government has done all the things that the Vice President was recounting. There’s no doubt about that. But was it an appropriate time to say that? Was it right to use that channel?
He added: “This period of time you don’t go about telling people what you’ve done. They are in harsh economic condition, you’ll want to sympathize with them, you’ll want to raise their hope. Governance is that you raise the hope of the people by working hard. You’ll tell them that government is trying to fix the problem so they should have a little bit of patience and then you touch on the occasion that took you there. But going there to list your achievements at this time was wrong.”
