Some eight brilliant students from the Ghana School of Law, Makola have been awarded scholarships for their distinguished performance.
Beneficiaries include Richard Adjei Kyeremateng, Stephen Menya-Amoako, Esther Josephine Boateng Agyenim, and Esther Dzifa Dogbe from year 1 and Maame Ekua Otenewa Oduro, Dion Akosua Kassim, Emenyo Afi Nutakor, Keren Sackey from year 2.
The awards form part of the notable Lebanese Community Scholarship Program which has supported over 600 Ghanaian students over the past 13 years.
At a brief ceremony which brought together key players from the Lebanese Embassy, Lebanese Community and Ghana School of Law, the Lebanese Ambassador H.E Fouad Khazzaka presented the cheque to management.
Ambassador of Lebanon to Ghana, His Excellency Fouad Khazzaka congratulated recipients for their distinguished academic performance to earn the award.
He said the scholarship program is a reflection of Lebanon’s firm belief in education as a catalyst for expanding knowledge towards development.
“This educational initiative reflects Lebanon’s historic vocation as a land of culture, knowledge and learning” he said.
He underscored the need for the Rule of Law as it remains the foundation upon which societies and states are built.
He added, “Law serves as a safeguard of justice, liberty and peace. As a legal professional myself, I am particularly pleased to support young people in this important profession.”
He urged the beneficiaries to pursue studies with diligence, integrity and determination while adding “your education will prepare you to become the lawyers, judges and legal scholars upon whom Ghana’s future will depend.”
On bilateral relations, he commended the historic fraternal ties between Lebanon and Ghana and shared belief of investing in young people to advance the fortunes of both nations.
Ambassador Khazzaka thanked the Ghana School of Law for being a leader in training legal practitioners to be at the helm of affairs in the legal industry.
He called for more culture-based events to promote bilateral and human relations between the two countries.
“I am confident that initiatives such as this will continue to strengthen not only educational opportunities available to young Ghanaians, but also the bonds of friendship and solidarity between our two countries” he stated.
Acting Director, People, Talent & Culture at the Ghana School of Law, Mrs. Louisa Condobery-Asamoah lauded the valuable investment made by the Lebanese Community in Ghana in the education sector over the years.
She noted that this will significantly contribute to Ghana’s legal architecture in the long term as more legal professionals are raised through the scholarship program.
While appreciating the progress made, she also appealed for the inclusion of more students.
Mr. Naaman Ashkar, a representative of the Lebanese Community, noted that the past 13 years of supporting these students have been fulfilling and they remain commitment to deepening the friendly ties they share with Ghana.
He stated that while there have been expansion efforts in recent years to include more students, they will continue to explore new opportunities to support more Ghanaians through higher education.
Maame Ekua Otenewaa, a beneficiary, thanked the donors for their consistent support and promised to redeem the confidence reposed in them.
“We are grateful to the Lebanese community for their continued generosity over the years. This gesture motivates us to strive for academic excellence. We promise to make the Community proud when we become lawyers” she stated.
Since 2012, the program has awarded scholarships, prizes and academic support to more than 600 students from the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC), the University of Ghana, the Ghana School of Law and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Beneficiaries include students from law, journalism, public relations, film and television, language and performing arts disciplines.
The Lebanese Scholarship program also has an alumni network that pursues further humanitarian projects to support growing communities.
