A group of youth from the Brofoyedu community has discovered what is believed to be the black box of the military helicopter that tragically crashed on Wednesday, killing several high-profile government officials and military personnel.
The suspected flight data recorder was immediately handed over to the official investigation team stationed at the crash site.
Authorities believe this crucial find could play a key role in uncovering the cause of the deadly incident.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, confirmed the recovery during a visit to the family of one of the victims.
In a Facebook post, the Minister expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation and vigilance since the tragedy occurred.
“We commend the courageous youth of Brofoyedu for their swift response and continued assistance. Their discovery and responsible action could prove critical to the ongoing investigations,” the Minister noted.
He further stated that investigators will examine the recovered device to verify its authenticity and determine whether the data it contains is still retrievable.
The crash, which has plunged the nation into mourning, claimed the lives of several prominent individuals, including former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Samuel Aboagye — both natives of the Ashanti Region.
Investigations are still underway to establish the exact cause of the tragic event.
