An unidentified woman, believed to be in her 50s, has been captured on CCTV abducting an 11-month-old baby during market day at Ajumako in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The footage shows the woman fleeing the busy market with the child, who was reportedly stolen from her mother, Esi Sekyiwa, while she was selling cassava at the Ajumako market.
Narrating the incident in an interview with GHOne News’ Yaw Boagyan, the distraught mother said she had handed the child to her sister-in-law due to the intense heat.
While they were in the market, a woman approached and offered to help carry the baby so the family could focus on their sales.
“She sat with us for over an hour, so I didn’t suspect any bad intentions. But before we realized, she had vanished,” Esi Sekyiwa recounted through tears.
Alarmed, they asked those nearby, but no one saw the woman leaving. A review of CCTV footage later confirmed the worst—the woman had taken off with the child.
The family has since appealed to the Ghana Police Service and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and help locate the missing child.
“We don’t know whether the woman wants to use the baby for rituals or sell her. All we want is for our child to be found and brought home safely,” one family member said.
They suspect the woman may be hiding in areas such as Winneba, Apam, Mankessim, or within the Kasoa enclave and are urging the public to be on high alert and assist with any useful information.
