The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as effective and visionary leadership, particularly in stabilizing the Ghanaian cedi.
On Friday, June 13, 2025, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II paid a courtesy call on President Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
Delivering a message on behalf of the King, Dr. Jacob Mahama praised the Mahama administration for its economic management.
He highlighted the cedi’s sharp appreciation against the US dollar as a sign of prudent fiscal stewardship.
Mr. Mahama said, “The drastic reduction in the dollar rate from 17 cedis to 11 cedis in less than six months is a remarkable achievements that speaks volume about your administration’s commitment to prudent economic management.”
“This significant reductions is not merely a number game, it reflects a deliberate in stabilising the economy, boost confidence in the cedi and create a favorable environment for investments and growth. It demonstrates your government’s ability to think critically and act decisively in the best interest of Ghanaians”
The cedi’s appreciation in recent months has been widely noted, with Bloomberg ranking it the world’s best-performing currency as of April 2025. The local currency strengthened to approximately GH₵10.20 per dollar, a major recovery from its earlier depreciation.
Experts attribute the rebound to a mix of fiscal consolidation policies, including reduced public spending, a freeze on new projects, and the suspension of arrears clearance—all of which have helped ease pressure on the currency.
