A 25-year-old excavator operator, Gausu Yusif, has been shot dead, while his colleague, Charles Essuman, is in critical condition after unknown gunmen opened fire on them in the Awutu Kwame Whettey Forest in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
The incident occurred while the two men were reportedly working in the forest to clear bushes and create access for the collection of rock samples for stone quarry purposes.
According to the Awutu Bereku District Police, the victims were using an excavator to pave a path into the forest when the attackers, who were riding on a motorbike, opened fire on them.

Confirming the incident to Kasapa News, the Awutu Bereku District Commander, Superintendent Edmond Nyamekye, said investigations are ongoing as police intensify efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Awutu Aberful, Nai Kojo Nam-Quaye, who reportedly handed over the rock site to Chinese investors, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter and that justice is served.
