March is women’s history month! Women have always been part of history. But for centuries, their participation in it was overlooked: Early history texts often excluded women altogether, except accounts of powerful women like queens. Historians—who were almost entirely men—often saw the past through the lens of the “great man” theory, which holds that history is largely shaped by male heroes and their struggles.

That changed in the 20th century, with the birth of women’s history as an academic discipline, a push to recognize the achievements of women—and a movement to ensure women had equal access to the academic institutions where their history might be taught. In the United States, the result was National Women’s History Month, an annual celebration born from the activism of historians intent on making sure women got their due.

The month of March is equally celebrated in Ghana as the Ghana history month, Ghana has a rich history of remarkable women whose actions have positively shaped the country both locally and on the international stage. These women have achieved global impact in almost every field. From music, literature, war zones, music and creativity. The following is the list of timeless Ghanaian women themed Ghanaian songs from some popular musicians.

  1. MEYE OBAA by Akosua Agyapong: Is a song that talks about a feminine who seek her lover to understand her as a woman whenever she is at fault.

2. Nyame Nhyira Mma by Daddy Lumba: Is a great Ghanaian music tune for all good women out there.

3. Kojo Antwi- Bre Bre Anowa: The Music Man who is well known as Kojo Antwi always served women a lovely tune tagged “Brebre Anowa“. The song is a gratitude song to celebrate all mothers

4.  The song which is titled “She’s A Woman” commends the lives of every African woman. Wiyaala said: “I want the world to see we are as capable, strong, energetic and as joyous as our sisters around the world. We are also part of the conversation that aspires to peace, equality and the opportunity to live in a stable world where all women get a fair chance in life”

5. African Woman by Becca was released in 2013 under EKB Records which was lifted off Her ‘Forever Album’, Visuals to the Video was Directed by Davis Media Group. The song celebrates all women, especially the strong black woman

6. Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie and Dance Hall star, Stonebwoy sings for the ladies on this record titled “Strength of a Woman“ from the album Black Love
