In a startling revelation, Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, widely known as Chef Smith, admitted to fabricating documents to claim Guinness World Records.
During an exclusive interview on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere, Chef Smith confessed that the deceit began with a forged application reference number and escalated from there.
When Amihere inquired whether he had forged the certificate as well, Chef Smith candidly replied, “Yeah, because it started with lies, it has to end with lies.”
Detailing the process, Chef Smith explained how he manipulated the application for the record. “Really, when you do the application, it takes 12 weeks for them to review your videos. That is regular. They have two ways, which I said earlier on that I read a lot about them.
“The premium will take like five days, which is a lot of money to apply. The regular is like seven, or eight dollars to apply. If it goes to 12 weeks, then you’ll be reviewed, and they’ll get back to you. I cleared him from set to match up to the day of announcing the certificate. It even passed a couple of days from 12 weeks.”
When questioned about the planning behind the announcement, Chef Smith admitted, “Not really planned out from the beginning to the end, but once the first step is taken, you have to complete it.”
On July 2, Chef Smith invited media houses to declare himself the newest record holder, fully aware of the falsity of his claim.
