The immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has urged Ghanaians to elect a competent and sincere leader in the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding candidates who make lofty promises but lack the integrity and ability to lead effectively.
Rev. Prof. Mante highlighted the need for voters to scrutinize the history of presidential aspirants to make informed decisions.
He noted, “If after voting for the person, you go out there to demonstrate or engage in violent protests, it means you don’t understand democracy. The basic principle of democracy is to be vigilant about the leader you vote for.”
He entreated Ghanaians to steer clear of lies and deceitful promises, advocating instead for the election of an honest and competent person to lead the country.
Rev. Prof. Mante made these remarks during the 2nd Edition of the Annual Heritage Lecture Series by the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong Akuapem, where a Multipurpose Office Complex was named in his honor.
At the same event, the Former General Secretary of the Ghana Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, delivered a lecture on the theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Heritage and Embracing Change.”
He argued that Ghana’s cultural diversity should be viewed as a strength rather than a weakness and urged politicians to refrain from exploiting cultural differences to create division among the populace.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Nana Opare Kwakye, explained the rationale behind naming the six-story Multipurpose Office Complex after Rev. Prof. Mante.
He highlighted the former Moderator’s dedication, sacrifice, and significant contributions to the College and the Church, stating that these warranted the honor.
