CIMG pledges enhanced institutional collaboration to advance the Marketing Profession at 34th AGM

The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), has re-affirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional collaborations to advance the marketing profession across the country.

At CIMG’s 34th Annual General Meeting held in Accra on Friday, November 15, 2024, CIMG President, Dr. Daniel Kasser-Tee, disclosed that the Institute plans to collaborate with academic institutions to make many of the country’s business schools centres for the Professional Marketing Qualification exams (PMQ).

“The institutional collaborations with both public and private universities will be stepped up, as we aim to ensure that most business schools in Ghana serve as Accredited Study Centres for the PMQ,” Dr. Kasser-Tee told members.

“We will continue to engage non-professional marketing practitioners and lecturers, encouraging them to enrol for certification as a way to strengthen professional and ethical marketing practices,” he added.

Dr. Kasser-Tee also emphasized the Institute’s commitment to enhancing research collaboration, following a decision by CIMG’s Governing Council to base its advocacy on marketing-related matters on scientific research.

“We will strengthen ties with our research partners, CIC and MSR, to provide the Ghanaian public with relevant research insights that will improve the quality of life and enhance the image of Ghana,” he said.

Currently, CIMG is engaged with about 20 public and private universities, as well as 6 tutorial colleges, offering guidance and support to help prospective candidates for the PMQ exams at their respective campuses.

The Ghana School of Marketing (GSM), the educational branch of CIMG, presented 103 students for the CIMG PMQ exams last year, with 61 students sitting the exams in June 2023.

The school has also signed strategic partnerships with Sunyani Technical University and Christian Service University College to support the implementation of the CIMG Professional Marketing Qualifications. Additionally, GSM signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Kigenni, an initiative aimed at revolutionizing how students cultivate their personal brands. The collaboration equips students with exceptional LinkedIn profiles, stellar CVs, and invaluable guidance on optimizing their professional journeys.

Dr. Kasser-Tee emphasized that strengthening ties with universities will allow for a more seamless integration of academic learning with the evolving needs of the marketing industry. The Institute also plans to formalize partnerships with international marketing organizations to facilitate knowledge exchange and open up opportunities for local marketers to engage with global trends.

With its renewed focus on collaboration and growth, CIMG is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the marketing profession in Ghana, equipping professionals with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to thrive in a dynamic global marketplace.
