Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the President, John Dramani Mahama, to ensure the completion of Agenda 111 hospitals to boost healthcare in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the Kyebi Government Hospital’s centenary anniversary, the ex-Ghanaian leader said this will enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
“Agenda 111 must be continued. Continuity, not disruption, is how health systems succeed. What was built must be maintained, what was started must be completed, and what was learned must not be lost. That is how progress is ensured,” the former President said.
He continued that the objective of undertaking the construction of several hospitals across the country was to make affordable healthcare for all.
“Agenda 111 was a programme built on a simple but powerful principle: no Ghanaian, regardless of location, should be denied access to quality healthcare. We must be honest; not every project was realised, and not every facility was completed.
“Some reached advanced stages but could not be finished before our term ended…,” he said.
The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, while speaking at the ceremony, called for a retooling of the Kyebi Government Hospital.
“I am not the only one frustrated but the nurses and doctors over there are equally frustrated. 100 years later, there is no scan machine in Kyebi Hospital, there is no quality laboratory in Kyebi Hospital,” he bemoaned.
