Former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Sampson Ahi has revealed a completed housing units for the military in Tema is wasting away because of the unavailability of President Akufo-Addo to commission the project.
The 368 housing units located at Tema Newtown was started by the Mahama administration as part of efforts at addressing the housing shortfall facing the security services.
The project is however yet to be handed over to the military command months after completion.
In an interview with Starr News’ Parliamentary Correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan, the former deputy minister who is a ranking member for works and Housing committee of parliament wondered why the project has been allowed to waste away.
“I don’t know what actually the problem is. I think they have been completed but they are only waiting for the President to commission it. Maybe, the calendar of the president; because the work is completed,” he said.
He added: ‘The last time we met with the ministry, they assured us that they were working with the flagstaff House to get a date so that it can be commissioned. So I’m sure it’s there because it has not been commissioned yet.”
Describing the situation as unacceptable, the Bode MP urged the government to go ahead and allocate the housing units if the President cannot be available to commission the project soon enough.
“Maybe through this medium you can highlight it and then the ministry and for that matter government will see the urgency of it. Whether commissioned or not it can be allocated to the officers for use,” he said.
