Covid-19: Opinion: The frailty of humanity and the need for God’s intervention

A cleaner worker cleans the pavement of Plaza Mayor square in Madrid downtown, Spain, Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Spain will mobilize 200 billion euros or the equivalent to one fifth of the country's annual output in loans, credit guarantees and subsidies for workers and vulnerable citizens, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced Tuesday. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms. For some, it can cause more severe illness, especially in older adults and people with existing health problems. But we all have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. And we all FADE as a leaf. And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6.

All world leaders, including the so-called SUPER-POWERS, have been left pathetically helpless as the plague of the new coronavirus continues to sweep many people from the surface of the earth.

One thing that intrigues me most are the calls many of them have been making on their people for repentance and turning to God for His intervention. All the human exploits in science and technology seem to be failing, at least at this stage of the pandemic, a clear indication of the FRAILTY of humanity and the need for God’s intervention in our lives.

Back in our days at SDA Training College, one of the popular hymns among students was Hymn 593 of the SDA Hymnary:
“In times like these we need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor,
Be very sure, be very true,
Your anchor holds and grips the solid Rock!”

We usually sang this song when results of examinations were about to be released or when a ” judgment” was to announced in the case of a student who had been caught by the then draconian laws in the colleges. In both scenarios, students could be sent home. And, indeed, some were sent home.

In times like these, we really need a Saviour and that Saviour is Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 64:6 makes allusion to the frail or weak or helpless nature of human beings. It says we FADE like a leaf, and it’s all because of our evil deeds, which we can all identify.

In the days preceding Noah’s era destruction of humanity through flood, the sins of the world had become terribly unimaginable. For instance, men were sleeping with men, as we have today.

I want to submit that the sins of this present generation is more grievous than what pertained in the days preceding the flood. At least, during that time, Men of God were not “blessing” same sex marriages. But now pastors, or let me say people who claim to be representing God on Earth, are happily supervising such marriages, approved by some of the very world leaders who are now crying for God’s intervention.

I believe the world, and my country GHANA especially, will overcome this deadly pandemic.
The word of God assures us that we should call on Him in the days of our trouble, and He will answer us.(Psalm 50:15).

I want to encourage you to activate or keep your trust in the Lord, who is ready to deliver you and your family, country and the world from this plague. We are assured in Psalm 125: 1-2 that those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion which can never be shaken but endures forever, and that just as mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds his people even now and forevermore.

If you are surrounded by the Lord, no disaster will invade your territory because the Lord will send His angels to secure your life.

Let’s invite Jesus into the boat of our lifes, so that he rebukes this storm of the coronavirus blowing violently across the globe, and seeking to sweep us away. He is the master of the storm, as recorded in Matthew 8: 26.

Brethren, I want to assure you that, with God on our side, we will not die of this plague, but will live and declare the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, as we are assured in Psalm 118:17.

God will certainly spare our lifes because He wants us to lead the effort at calling people to repentance in this end time.
Finally the message: Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand. I am a proud Presbyterian and Editor of Ghana’s Daily Statesman newspaper, what about you? Peace be unto you.
