Government has clarified that the aircraft involved in Monday’s fatal crash at Tema Community 1 was privately owned and not linked to the military.
In a Facebook post, Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi dismissed suggestions that the helicopter belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, following the tragic incident that claimed two lives.
“We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon. We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces. We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” he stated.
The clarification comes after a helicopter with registration number G9-ADV crash-landed at the TMA Daycare, Site 18, in Tema Community 1 on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident was reported at 14:59 hours, prompting a swift response from firefighters at the Tema Metro Fire Station, who arrived at the scene within three minutes.
