The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association (CSSMA) has thrown its full support behind GoldBod’s efforts to curb gold smuggling and improve traceability in Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.
In a statement, the association applauded GoldBod Chief Executive Sammy Gyamfi for what it described as firm action against illicit gold trade, noting that planned traceability systems would protect state revenue and restore integrity to the sector.
“The Association applauds Mr. Gyamfi’s commitment to tackling gold smuggling,” the statement said, highlighting plans for “a comprehensive and credible system for tracing gold purchases from source to sale.”
According to CSSMA, effective traceability will not only curb illegal trade but also deliver environmental benefits by reducing illegal mining and protecting water bodies.
“By formalising mining activities and enforcing standards, GoldBod’s systems will help reduce illegal mining, protect water bodies, improve land reclamation practices, and promote responsible mining,” the association stated.
CSSMA further linked GoldBod’s operations to improved foreign exchange inflows, saying formal gold purchases have reduced leakages and strengthened investor confidence in Ghana’s economy.
The association said it remains firmly aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision and will continue to work with GoldBod and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable benefits for small-scale miners and the country.
