Investigation has been officially launched into the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight government officials while they were en route for national duty.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 25, and signed by Acting Defence Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ministry of Defence announced that an Investigation Board, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, has commenced its work.
The Board includes officials from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), with technical support from visiting experts of the U.S. Air Force.
The Ministry disclosed that a preliminary team, set up on the day of the incident, has already submitted its findings to the Board, which has been given 30 days to conclude its work.
It further noted that other experts, both local and international, may be called upon to assist with the inquiry.
The crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed; and NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
The others were Deputy NADMO Director-General Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
