Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has entreated regional ministers and their deputies to be abreast with details of all government programmes and projects to ensure successful implementation.
He said once government gets it right at the local level of which the regional ministers are the arrow heads, the confidence Ghanaians have in the Akufo-Addo-led government will be highly boosted.
“I will like to re-iterate that assuming your respective roles as local development Authorities at the Regional Coordinating Councils and the District Assemblies will be fundamental to achieving the developmental agenda of the president.
“We can achieve this by intensifying our activities as a unified front to support H.E the president with hard work, dedication, commitment and sacrifices. Indeed, if we have to move beyond aid, to a self-reliant economy, the onus lies on all of us to harness our efforts, collectively and individually, to meet the demands of the present competitive global market and technological advancement,” Dr. Bawumia stated at the opening of the regional ministers’ conference held in Kumasi on Friday, December 15, 2017.
He added: “It is your duty to ensure the success of all government programmes and projects. And as you do so, you must place special emphasis on the President’s Flagship Projects and Programmes. Ghanaians have amply demonstrated their confidence in this government and we cannot afford to disappoint them.”
Dr. Bawumia advised the ministers and their deputies to channel their energies into ensuring that all programmes outlined by the government succeed within their jurisdiction since that will have a major impact on the economy at the national level.
“I encourage all of us to work hard on our respective roles towards national interest and objectives as conferred on us by the 1992 Constitution. We must endeavor to understand the backstopping role of the Regional Level in District Governance and effective utilisation of the District Assembly resources.
“This is in consideration of the fact that the national economy is an aggregation of the district economies with the Regional Level as an Interface expected to ensure effective monitoring and co-ordination with high sense of proactive and participatory leadership,” the vice president mentioned.
He added: “I believe with our collective effort, rich ideas and support to the government, we will build a prosperous Ghana and lift the flag of this Country high. We will indeed look back 60 years from now and hold our heads high up for having played a role in Ghana’s advancement.”
The conference which is scheduled to end Saturday, December 16, 2017 is being chaired by Otumfuo’s Adontenhene, Nana Adu Gyamfi II and also serves as a platform for the ministers to share ideas and come up with solutions to enhance development in their regions.
