Senior Pastor of Hill Chapel, Reverend Kwadwo Bempah, has cautioned the public against hastily criticizing pastors who attend political events or associate with politicians, stressing that such actions are not always politically motivated.
Rev. Bempah’s comments come amid ongoing public debate about the perceived closeness between some pastors and political leaders, which has often sparked criticism and controversy within religious and political circles.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Rev. Bempah said the involvement of men of God in political spaces is sometimes guided by divine direction rather than personal interest.
“I believe that it’s not that some men of God want to dabble in politics, but if they are sent, then they have to do what God is telling them to,” he stated.
He added that attending political functions or maintaining friendships with politicians is often a matter of individual discretion.
“With attending political functions and being friends with politicians, it’s the individual’s discretion, so I am not going to judge anybody,” he said.

Rev. Bempah further cited Matthew 7:1 to emphasize the importance of refraining from judgment, pointing out that relationships between pastors and political figures are often misinterpreted by the public.
“For instance, if Bola is my friend for the last 10-something years and suddenly the UN appoints him as Secretary-General, how will I say I won’t attend?” he asked rhetorically.
“So sometimes, it’s not only politics, people have relationships with others. But people will interpret it this way and that way. I don’t judge anybody because I don’t know the basis, whether family relation, political relation, whatever. Let’s leave that one for God Himself to judge.”
