The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is advancing plans to digitise road accident reporting, with a proposed system requiring accident locations to be electronically captured before reports can be prepared.
Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, announced the initiative at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 12, 2026.
“Work has far advanced for the Authority to digitalise the road accident report,” he said.
Mr Kotey expressed concern about the existing reporting process, which he said allowed accident reports to be prepared remotely without officers necessarily documenting the scene of an incident.
Under the proposed system, the coordinates of an accident location must be captured electronically before the platform permits the preparation of a report.
The requirement is intended to strengthen the link between accident reports and the actual locations where incidents occur, while improving the reliability and integrity of information recorded by the Authority.

Mr Kotey said the initiative formed part of broader efforts to modernise the DVLA’s operations and strengthen road safety administration.
He also disclosed that the Authority was working to complete a vehicle lay-off system that would allow vehicle owners to formally declare their vehicles out of use for reasonable periods when they are not being driven.
