The Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana (EMSOG) has strongly condemned the recent attack at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, describing it as an unacceptable act of intimidation and violence within a healthcare facility.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, EMSOG expressed concern over the circulation of video recordings of the incident, stressing that it constituted a serious breach of patient privacy and confidentiality.
The Society warned that such actions undermine public trust, which is essential for effective healthcare delivery.

The statement, jointly signed by EMSOG President Dr. Daniel Osei-Kwame and General Secretary Mr. Emmanuel Acheampong, called for the immediate strengthening of security measures within all emergency departments and critical units across the country.
According to the group, hospitals must remain safe sanctuaries where patients can receive care and staff can work without fear, intimidation, or disruption.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with any staff who may have been harmed, physically or emotionally, by this unfortunate event. We stand firmly with our dedicated healthcare professionals and remain committed to ensuring that hospitals across Ghana are safe and secure spaces for all,” the statement added.
The assault at Ridge Hospital has drawn widespread condemnation from health groups, civil society actors, and the general public, with many calling for swift action to protect healthcare workers from similar attacks in the future.
