Eastern region CPP backs NEC’s decision, threaten to sanction members who defy

The Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has reiterated its unwavering support for the decisions made by the National Executive Council (NEC) during a crucial meeting held in Kumasi back in December 2023.

This decision comes in the wake of the resignation of national executives, which ultimately led to the ousting of Chairperson and Leader Nana Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankuma.

Subsequently, an interim committee was formed to oversee the party’s operations until new substantive national executives are elected.

Addressing the media on Saturday in Koforidua, the Regional Secretary Comrade Pierson Oppong stated, “We are convinced by the explanations by members of the interim council at the Eastern Regional Executive committee meeting held in Koforidua on Saturday February 24, 2024. We, the Regional and constituency Executives across the region, promise our continuous support for the council and its mandate of steering the affairs of the party and preparing for the election of national officers.”

The REC emphasized its respect for the NEC’s authority and decision-making process, further stating, “As the Regional Executive, we will not hesitate to take disciplinary actions against any member who acts contrary to the Constitution and collective decision of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).”

Furthermore, the REC called upon all officers who were removed from their positions at the NEC to gracefully accept the decision, facilitating the smooth implementation of activities by the interim council at various levels of the party.

Eastern Regional Chairman of CPP, Comrade Semefa Mawutor, expressed optimism, stating, “The voluntary resignation of the former executives is good for the party.”

He dismissed concerns about its impact on party unity, emphasizing the party’s resilience.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Executives of CPP have launched “Operation 2424,” aimed at encouraging members to recruit a minimum of 24 new members each. Comrade Mawutor stressed, “This initiative aims to enable the party to win the 2024 polls.”
