The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has announced a series of major GETFund-sponsored emergency infrastructural projects aimed at transforming educational institutions from the basic to tertiary level within the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The Minister officially handed over the project sites to consultants and contractors for immediate commencement of work.
According to Hon. Adjei Awatey, the projects have been made possible through the efforts of Hon. Seth Terkper, Special Advisor to the President on the Economy, who facilitated the processes leading to the approval and funding of the contracts.
The projects include Construction of two hostel blocks for the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD). This project, according to Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Vice-Chancellor of the University, would address acccomodation challenges facing the University.
The other projects include 2-storey girls’ dormitory and 2-storey boy’s dormitory blocks for Yilo Krobo Senior High School (YIKROSEC). Government will also construct 2-storey 18-unit classroom block for YIKROSEC.

Klo Agogo Senior High School has been allocated three 4-unit semi-detached teachers bungalows and a 3-bedroom headmistress bungalow to address accommodation challenges for teachers for effective supervision on campus.
Additionally, Klo Agogo SHS will get a modern dining hall and kitchen facility and a 2-storey administration block with library.
At the Basic school level, Somanya Presbyterian Junior High School has been allocated a 2-storey 6 -Unit classroom block with staff quarters to raplace dilapidated classroom block constructed in 1944.
In addition to this, a 2-storey 6-unit classroom block with 6-unit staff quarters will be constructed for the school.
Sra Presby will also get a 2-storey 6-unit classroom block with 6-unit staff quarters for Sra Presby JHS whiles Aboabo Basic School gets 6-unit classroom block.

Hon. Rita Awatey emphasized that the government remains committed to improving access to quality education through equitable distribution of infrastructure, especially in deprived communities.
She urged the contractors to ensure strict adherence to timelines and quality standards to guarantee value for money.
The Minister was quick to also announced that similar projects are going to kick start across the region in various district and municipal assemblies.
