Deputy Managing Director of STC and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nuru Hamidan, has questioned the credibility of the Electoral Commission (EC) over its handling of pink sheets verification in the Ablekuma North constituency during the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Emmanuel Agyabeng on GHOne TV’s GHToday, Mr. Hamidan argued that the EC failed to verify 19 polling station pink sheets presented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He insisted that the inability of the Commission to authenticate these documents raises serious concerns about its competence.
According to him, while the NPP produced scanned copies of 18 pink sheets which were verified by the EC, 19 others could not be validated. He challenged the NPP to produce the original pink sheets instead of relying on scanned copies.
“Why is the NPP hiding the original pink sheets and only bringing scanned copies? If the EC cannot verify them, it shows they lack credibility and competence,” he said.
He added that despite concessions made by the NDC to accept verified pink sheets, the unresolved discrepancies undermine public confidence in the electoral process. Mr. Hamidan further criticised the NPP for what he described as a sudden U-turn in their confidence in the EC, having previously questioned its neutrality.
The NDC, he emphasised, will continue to insist on electoral integrity to safeguard Ghana’s democracy.
