The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will conduct by-elections in several electoral areas and units across the country on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, and dated October 6, 2025, the Commission said the elections are in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by Act 940, to fill vacancies created by the deaths or resignations of some Assembly and Unit Committee Members.

According to the EC, “Nomination Forms may be obtained free of charge at the District Offices of the Electoral Commission or downloaded from the Commission’s website ([www.ec.gov.gh/forms](http://www.ec.gov.gh/forms)) from Monday, 6th October to Thursday, 16th October, 2025.”

It added that completed nomination forms must be submitted in person by candidates, proposers, or seconders from October 13 to October 16, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“The Nomination Forms for the vacant Electoral Areas must be witnessed by the signature or mark of the Proposer and Seconder and supported by eighteen (18) other persons who are resident and registered voters in the Electoral Area,” the statement continued.

Similarly, candidates vying for Unit Committee positions must have their nomination forms endorsed by eight registered voters from their respective units.

The by-elections will take place in more than 1,500 polling stations across multiple regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, and Western North.

Some of the notable districts include:

  • Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Adenta, Weija-Gbawe, Ayawaso Central, and Madina
  • Ashanti: Obuasi Municipal, Akrofuom, Atwima Mponua, Bantama, Suame, and Juaben
  • Eastern: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Atiwa West
  • Central: Cape Coast, Efutu, Gomoa Central, Agona West, and Mfantseman
  • Western: Jomoro, Nzema East, Ellembelle, Sekondi-Takoradi, and Wassa Amenfi Central
  • Volta: North Tongu, Adaklu, Agotime Ziope, Ho, and Kpando

The Commission urged all interested persons to direct their enquiries to the respective Returning Officers at the District Offices of the EC in the affected areas.
