The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has responded to concerns from some prepaid customers over its metering and billing systems, assuring the public that its meters are accurate and meet approved standards.
In a statement dated Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the power distributor said it had taken note of the issues raised by customers and stakeholders and was committed to addressing them transparently.
“We wish to assure the general public that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy,” the statement said.
According to ECG, its quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international benchmarks. The company noted that its meter testing laboratory is “state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide.”
It further explained that all meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) before they are deployed for public use.
While expressing confidence in its systems, ECG acknowledged that customers may have legitimate concerns and pledged to investigate all complaints.
“While ECG remains confident in the accuracy and reliability of its meters, we acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns,” the statement said, adding that investigations have already begun in line with a directive from the Energy Ministry.
To reinforce transparency, the company disclosed that it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority to independently and randomly select meters for testing both in the laboratory and in the field.
“GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s report to the Honourable Minister,” the company stated.
ECG reaffirmed its commitment to “responsive, transparent, and accountable service delivery,” and thanked customers and stakeholders for their continued cooperation.
