The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has pledged US$250,000 (about GH¢3 million) to support victims of Ghana’s recent devastating floods, in a move aimed at assisting ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
The financial support follows the June 29, 2026 floods, which left a trail of destruction across several parts of the country.
The disaster claimed multiple lives, displaced families and destroyed homes, businesses, roads and other critical infrastructure, forcing emergency response agencies to undertake rescue and humanitarian operations.
In a statement dated Sunday, August 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had been officially notified of ECOWAS’ decision to provide the assistance.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to announce, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, that it has just been notified by ECOWAS that they have decided to donate US$250,000.00 (about GHS3.00 million) to Ghana for victims of the recent devastating floods.”
The Ministry assured the public that the funds would be transferred in full to support affected victims immediately after they are received.
The Government also expressed gratitude to the regional bloc for standing with Ghana in the aftermath of the disaster.
The ECOWAS support adds to ongoing efforts by the government and humanitarian organisations to assist flood victims as communities continue to recover from one of the country’s worst flooding incidents in recent years.
The June 29 floods inundated several communities, sweeping away property worth millions of cedis, disrupting livelihoods and highlighting the growing threat of extreme weather events and urban flooding.
