The Minister for Education, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, has urged a national mindset shift to reposition technical and vocational education as a respected and first-choice pathway for learners.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Governing Board of Accra Technical University (ATU), the Minister called for a rebranding of technical education to reflect its value in today’s economy.

“We must stop treating technical education as a reserve or last option,” Hon Iddrisu said. “It should be seen as an equally valuable pathway that offers practical skills and career readiness for the 21st-century economy.”

He emphasised that in a rapidly evolving job market, technical education plays a crucial role in equipping the youth with employable skills and driving national development.

The Minister urged the newly inaugurated board to lead efforts to reshape public perception and raise the quality and visibility of technical and vocational training in the country.

He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resourcing technical institutions and ensuring they deliver world-class training that meets industry standards.

The newly sworn-in ATU Governing Board is expected to support the university’s strategic direction and its mission to produce competent, industry-ready graduates.
