EduSpots has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) to support the Teshie Community Library in Accra, marking a new step in strengthening community-led education in Ghana.
The Ghana Library Authority, which manages 138 public libraries nationwide, has in recent years expanded its digital library services and training programmes to promote literacy and digital inclusion.
EduSpots, a Ghana- and UK-registered charity, runs 50 community-led education spaces known as “Spots” across Ghana and beyond, working with over 400 local changemakers, called Catalysts, and engaging more than 10,000 learners annually.
Under the new partnership, EduSpots will support Teshie Community Library with a range of initiatives, including early years education (EduKidz), digital literacy (DigiLit), STEM and environmental learning (EcoSTEM), and gender equity clubs (Ignite Equity). Local volunteers and Ghana Library staff will also take part in leadership and safeguarding training, connecting with EduSpots’ nationwide network.
The collaboration has been championed by Emmanuel Adjei, whose Bike2MyRoots campaign saw him cycle 10,000km from Munich to Accra over 103 days, raising funds to refurbish the Teshie library in his hometown. His journey drew support from public figures including Bayern Munich footballer Glódís Perla and Ghanaian academic Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann.
EduSpots’ support will include the donation of 2,000 books—many by African authors, alongside tablets, a laptop, projector, wifi kit, and new furniture for younger readers.
Commenting on the initiative, Emeritus Professor Gloria Agyemang, Chair of EduSpots’ Global Trustees, said:
“We are delighted to start this relationship with the Ghana Library Authority in Teshie, and we hope this will be the beginning of a long-term collaboration to enhance library services and education in Ghana.”
Mr Ziblim Alhassan, Acting Executive Director of GhLA, added:
“This partnership demonstrates our shared vision of strengthening libraries as vibrant learning hubs that drive literacy, digital inclusion and lifelong learning.”
The partnership will officially launch on 20 September 2025 with a community event in Teshie to welcome Emmanuel Adjei home from his 10,000km cycling journey.
