Election 2024 is a test case for Dampare – Yamin

Dr. Joseph Yamin, the National Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has underscored the significance of the upcoming elections as a pivotal moment for the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In an exclusive interview with Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo at ABUSUA965FM, Yammin emphasized that December’s elections will serve as a definitive test of the IGP’s ability to effectively manage the police force and ensure a safe environment for voters.

“This election is a test case for the IGP, as it will prove whether the IGP’s handling of the police force is effective,” he explained..

Yammin expressed cautious optimism about Dampare’s track record, noting his successful oversight during recent bye-elections.

“Some of us have confidence in him,” Dr. Yamin remarked, “as he has proven his commitment to protecting Ghana’s peace in at least two bye-elections.”

Addressing concerns about voter safety, Yammin made it clear that if the state failed to provide adequate protection, citizens may feel compelled to seek their own means of security.

“If the state fails to give us protection, we will find our own protection,” he warned, emphasizing the importance of a secure voting environment.

Dr. Yamin reiterated that the responsibility for election management lies squarely with the police, not the military. “The police force, along with other security services, is sufficient to maintain peace at the polling stations,” he stated

“In a direct appeal to members of the National Democratic Congress, Yammin urged them to be proactive on election day.

“All you need to do is wake up early, go and vote,” he encouraged.

He assured supporters that the integrity of the ballot box would be upheld until it will be officially opened for counting.

“I can assure you that the ballot box will remain intact until it is opened for counting and the results are declared”, he stressed.
