President-elect John Dramani Mahama has vowed to lead a government that reflects the aspirations of all Ghanaians, transcending political divides.
Speaking at his campaign office following his declaration as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 general elections, Mahama expressed profound gratitude to the electorate for entrusting him with the leadership of the nation.
The Electoral Commission officially announced Mahama’s victory with 56.55% of the vote, defeating his closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 41.61%. The outcome marks a decisive win for the former president and leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In his victory speech, Mahama emphasized unity and inclusivity, underscoring the shared dreams and aspirations of the nation.
“My brothers and sisters, it is with tremendous humility that I accept this clear mandate that you, the good people of Ghana, have given me to lead this great nation as your next president,” he said.
Mahama acknowledged the significance of each vote cast, stating, “Every vote that was cast in this election carried the same weight. Every vote also carried the hope and the future of our country.”
He pledged to assemble a government that prioritizes the interests of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. “I promise you that I will assemble and lead a government that will carry the weight of those hopes and dreams, whether you voted for me or not, because every victory is a victory for the people, all of the people,” Mahama declared.
The president-elect’s speech was met with jubilation from supporters gathered at the campaign headquarters. Many described the victory as a new chapter for Ghana, with hopes for policies that will address pressing national issues, including economic recovery, education, and health care.
