A taxi driver who was being pursued by Police over a road traffic offence has knocked down three pedestrians killing a 60-year-old woman on the spot
The accident occurred at Auntie-Martha an area at Asamankese in the Eastern region.
According to reports, the Taxi Driver who was speeding to escape Police arrest after he failed to stop at a Police Check Point, lost control of the steering wheel and crashed three females at the roadside killing one on the spot while the other two who were seriously injured were rushed to the Asamankese Hospital.
One of the two injured persons has been referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for emergency treatment.
The taxi driver who also sustained injuries and has been treated at the Asamankese Hospital.
ACP Lovelace Tefuto, the Divisional Commander of Asamankese confirmed the accident adding that investigations will commence soon. He added that the driver has been arrested after he went into hiding.
According to ACP Tefuo, the taxi driver was running away on assumption that he was being chased by the Police having failed to stop at Police Check point
