The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has cautioned drivers across the country to adhere strictly to the mandated fare reduction or face sanctions.
This follows nationwide reports of some commercial bus drivers defying the directive to reduce transport fares because their car owners have refused to renegotiate the daily sales targets. The drivers also note that prices of spare parts at the Abossey Okai market in Accra have also not been adjusted.
But the GPRTU in a statement has threatened to sanction any driver who refuses to reduce transport fares by 15 per cent to align with the cedi’s continued gains against the US dollar.
“The commercial transport operators of Ghana hereby inform the public that all drivers are expected to comply with the 15% reduction in fares. Failure to comply will result in sanctions,” the statement warned.
“We urge all drivers to adhere to the fare reduction to avoid sanctions. The public is encouraged to report any non-compliance to our office or the police,” it added.
