Revenue collectors of the newly established Fanteakwa South District and Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern Region have clashed over the right to collect revenues at Linda Dor Restaurant area and Nsutem Lorry Park.
The District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South, Adjabeng Kwasi Ntori blames the situation on absence of clearly demarcated boundaries for the newly established district.
“Boundary demarcation between sister-assembly, the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly has been an issue. There have been frequent clashes of revenue collectors of our sister assembly over Linda Dor Restaurant and the Lorry Park at Nsutem due to lack of clearly defined demarcation. The dispute has a significant effect on our revenue mobilization,” he said.
The DCE however, hastened to add that, “the Ghana Statistical Service is carrying out a re-demarcation exercise throughout the country and we hope the matter will soon be resolved.”
Meanwhile, Kwasi Ntori has revealed at the maiden Ordinary meeting of the District Assembly that despite the revenue collection clashes, a total of Ghc115, 0018 revenue has been mobilized at the end of August this year, representing 51% of the projected revenue of GH¢224,000 for the period.
He said management of the Assembly has identified some weaknesses and irregularities in its revenue mobilization system and that commitments have been made to address them to enable the young Assembly to get enough revenue to undertake development project especially at a time when the Assembly’s Share of the Common Fund has not been released.
“I must indicate that the delay in the release of the Common Fund has brought about undue pressure on the already low Internally Generated Fund,” he said.
According to him, there are a number of uncompleted projects including poor road networks needing urgent attention but the Assembly lacks the resources for them.
