Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have brought a late-night blaze at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra under control, averting what could have been a major disaster.
According to officials, the Service received a distress call at 10:46 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

A response team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene by 11:02 p.m., with additional crews from the Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations joining shortly after to support firefighting efforts.

After nearly two hours of coordinated operations, the fire was contained at 12:01 a.m. and fully extinguished by 12:24 a.m. Thursday. In total, twelve wooden structures — six serving as homes and six as shops — were destroyed, while a 40-foot container used as a cold store sustained partial damage.
Fire officers credited their rapid response and tactical coordination for saving several adjoining structures from being consumed by the flames.
No casualties were reported, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
