There is shortage of flour and wheat bran in the Sekondi-Takorad Metropolis as the Takoradi flour company appears unable to settle the labour unrest between the workforce and management that has led to a shut down.
The Takoradi harbour based manufacturing company has been under lock and key for the past seven (7) working days amidst heavy security presence
Some affected customers who spoke to Empire News in Takoradi said they are feeling the pinch of the shortage of the commodity and have had to buy at the black market price.
“I ordered for 142 bags at a cost of twenty-one thousand Ghana cedis waiting to transport it to Kumasi, only for my driver to tell me that the company has been shut down, Now my money is locked up and I don’t also have the product to bake bread for my customers, I am pleading with the company to quickly resolve the disturbing situation since the customers are at the receiving end of the impasse, Madam Faustina Breyah told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan.
Another customer said we were buying the 50kg bag of flour at 156 cedis but because of the impasse we are now buying at 180 cedis even at that price, it is hard to come by and we buy the 25kg at 95 instead of the 86 cedis.
The company which was expected to commence operations last Tuesday August12th had to postpone because the workers are opposing the comeback of the embattled General Manager, Thierry Loupiac whom the workers accuse of maltreating them.
Speaking on Empire Community News, the public relations officer of flour mills, Percy Botchwey said the company is likely to resume productions next week as management continues to engage the workers on the impasse.
