The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has urged public calm and cooperation as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) commences a major transformer upgrade programme across key areas in Accra aimed at improving power supply reliability and strengthening the distribution network.
The exercise, which begins today, targets several substations and surrounding communities, including Adenta, La, Teshie–Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi.
Residents in these areas are expected to experience temporary power interruptions as essential installation works are carried out.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by ECG and the Government to reduce system overloads, minimize outages, and enhance electricity delivery in rapidly growing urban communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Spokesperson and Director of Communications, Richmond Rockson, appealed for public cooperation.
“We ask the public to kindly bear with government and the Electricity Company of Ghana as these transformer upgrade works are implemented. Although there will be temporary power interruptions, these improvements are necessary for a more reliable and resilient power supply in the long term,” he said.
ECG indicated that the works will be implemented in phases to manage disruptions, with outage durations varying depending on location and scope of the upgrade.
Residents and businesses have been advised to make necessary arrangements and stay updated through ECG’s official communication channels.
The Ministry and ECG reaffirmed their commitment to completing the exercise efficiently while minimizing inconvenience to the public.
