Forensic committee needed to trace missing ECG containers – Jinapor

Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has proposed a forensic committee to investigate the disappearance of Electricity of Ghana (ECG) containers from the Tema Port.

The containers, containing vital electrical equipment for national power distribution, have sparked widespread concern.

Reports suggest that the containers were diverted through various means, including being cleared from the port but not reaching ECG warehouses.

Instead, they allegedly ended up in private factories or were sold at suspiciously low prices through auctions.

The controversy began with an investigative report highlighting suspicious transactions and irregularities in ECG’s procurement processes.

Allegations have been made that certain government officials and ECG executives were aware of the improper handling but failed to act.

Speaking to Lily Mohammed on GHToday, Mr. Jinapor expressed gratitude for the public’s interest in the issue, stating that it demonstrates a desire for accountability.

He announced plans to track the containers using their unique identification numbers or serial numbers and identify the ports where they were received.

The Minister, according to him, has received tips on possible locations of the containers, including warehouses and factories, and has vowed to take action.

He stated, “I’m very happy in the interest that Ghanaians are showing, it means that they want accountability. They want the right thing done, they want us to trail the whereabouts of these containers and to hold those who are behind this development to account and that’s exactly what we are doing. Let me thank the public. This morning, I’ve received a couple of calls of other areas in terms of warehouses and factories where these ECG containers can be found and so we will be moving into action this morning.”

“But beyond that we also need a small forensic committee that will trail back these containers, we need to track them with using their unique identification numbers or serial numbers, which ports were received….”

The proposed forensic committee aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the investigation.
