There is intense anxiety among contractors owed above GCH500,000 by government following the continued postponement of payments of their arrears.
According to the contractors, several assurances of payment by government have failed to materialise for close to two months now.
The Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako Atta, recently said over 65 percent of contractors owed by government have been paid in the last two months.
He said contractors who are however yet to be paid will see the monies hit their accounts soon.
“Because of our determination to make 2020 a year of roads, the President directed two months ago, that an amount of GHS 2.2 billion should be used to pay all contractors across the country so that, everybody will go back to work. As I speak with you now, over 60 to 65 percent of them have received payment. We are paying and we will continue to pay,” he said.
However, the Contractors told Starr News colleagues paid are owed paltry amounts bellow Gh500,000 while those owed above Ghc500,000 have been neglected with no hope.
The fear of unbearable delays in payment among these group of contractors has been heightened by impeccable information available to them that portions of funds released for payment of their arrears have been diverted to undertake some critical projects.
The contractors are therefore urging government to facilitate payment of their arrears which are having devastating effect on their companies and families.
