Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, says Ghana’s younger voters, particularly Gen Z, are focusing more on tangible impact than political rhetoric.
Speaking on GHToday with Serwaa Amihere, A-Plus noted that modern voters are less swayed by symbolic gestures or propaganda and more concerned with policies that directly affect their daily lives.
“The Gen Z voters are not looking for who wants to commission a KVIP,” he said. “They are not looking for who wants to spread propaganda. They’re looking for who’s doing what for me now.”
He cited the free education initiative introduced under former President Akufo-Addo as an example, pointing out that many students who benefited from the programme still voted against the NPP in the last elections.
“It has to send a certain signal to the NPP,” he said.
“It’s not all about the propaganda because the kids today know that the money is not your money, it’s the government’s money. It’s the government’s money that was used to pay my school fees, so why should I vote for you?”
A-Plus added that Gen Z voters care deeply about the conditions they experienced in school.
“What they care about is when we went to school, what we were eating, where we were sleeping, what conditions we were living in? Is it because we don’t have money or we’ve heard the government is spending X amount of money buffing in the air? All these things are going to decide if they’re going to vote for you or not.”
