The Ghana Export Promotion Authority has held the second edition of the international coconut festival in Accra.
The 2022 edition of the International Coconut Festival themed ‘Repositioning Ghana’s Coconut Sector for Accelerated Industrialization’, was aimed at exploring ways of expediting growth of the sector by adding value to the raw materials produced from coconut.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4 day festival and exhibition, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, is optimistic that investment in coconut production can help mitigate poverty in the country.
“A higher productivity in coconut production could be one of the fastest means by which an impact could be made in the alleviation of poverty and improve farmers income in rural areas”, he asserted.
On his part, Samuel Dentu, the Deputy CEO of GEPA pledged his outfits commitment to bridging the gap between coconut production and its exportation.
For him Ghana can gain a lot more grounds as a country in the global industry “With a lot more strategic aggression in production, processing and promotion of coconut and its derivatives for export.”
