The Ghana Education Service (GES) has concluded its investigation into a viral video showing students at Savelugu Senior High School being served jollof rice without eggs in January 2026.
According to GES in a statement, the omission occurred because the supplier failed to deliver the eggs.
“On the said date, students were scheduled to be served jollof rice with eggs for supper. However, the supplier failed to supply the eggs,” the statement said.
The school reportedly served the meal without offering an alternative, promising students that double protein would be provided in the next meal.
GES described the decision as unacceptable and attributed the incident to inadequate supervision.
The headmaster was reportedly absent, having obtained approval from the Municipal Director of Education.
Management also noted that the school’s dining hall had been booked for a political event that day, and a party member exploited the situation to record and circulate the video.
The Service emphasized that the incident was an “isolated occurrence” and does not reflect the school’s normal feeding practices. GES has since taken disciplinary action, and the Municipal Director of Education has been temporarily assigned to oversee feeding arrangements at the school.
Management reassured the public that the provision of “adequate and quality meals for students remains a key priority for the Ghana Education Service,” the statement concluded.
