The Ghana Education Service (GES) has finalized arrangements to promote qualified teachers to the ranks of Director II and Director I, removing previous restrictions tied to limited office vacancies.
GES confirmed in a statement dated Wednesday, January 28, 2026, that the first call for applications, along with the required aptitude test, will be announced by the end of the first quarter of this year.
“Management anticipates that the first call for applications and the aptitude test for promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I will be announced by the end of the first quarter of this year,” the statement noted.
The promotion process follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including teacher unions, and the submission of a final report by a committee made up of representatives from GES, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Significantly, promotions are no longer dependent on the availability of office vacancies, a move aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to supporting teachers.
GES assured that further details, including guidelines for the process, will be communicated through official channels only.
