Ghana’s Amputee football team, the Black Challenge have been confirmed as participants for the 2026 WAFF World Cup by the Wold Amputee Football Federation.
Ghana qualified for the World Cup in April when they won the Amputee AFCON in Egypt and have now been confirmed alongside Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Angola Liberia, and Egypt.
Coach of the Black Challenge, Stephen Richard Obeng, has reacted to the news from the football federation and says it means a lot to the team after they missed out on the last edition.
He added that it’ll be an opportunity for the team to show Ghanaians that they can be world champions. He also called for support for the team as they begin preparations.
The Black Challenge have won the Amputee AFCON for two consecutive tournaments and won Gold at the Paralympic Games held in Ghana last year.
Africa will, for the first time, have the same slots as Europe in a world football competition.
Other countries from Europe who have qualified for the tournament are Turkey, Spain, Poland, England, Italy, Ireland, and Germany.
Specific dates and venue for the WAFF 2026 World Cup are yet to be confirmed by the federation.
